Door Interlocks
An elevator door interlock is a safety mechanism that ensures that the elevator doors are securely closed before the elevator can move. The interlock is typically located on the door header and consists of a set of switches or sensors that detect when the doors are fully closed and locked.
When the elevator is at a landing and the doors are open, the interlock prevents the elevator from moving until the doors are closed and locked. Once the doors are closed and locked, the interlock sends a signal to the elevator control system indicating that it is safe for the elevator to move.
Elevator door interlocks are critical safety components of the elevator system, as they prevent passengers from accidentally falling into the elevator shaft or becoming trapped in the doors. They are designed to be fail-safe, meaning that if the interlock fails or becomes damaged, the elevator will not be able to move until the problem is corrected.
Regular maintenance and inspection of the elevator door interlock is important to ensure that it continues to operate safely and reliably. This may include testing the interlock to make sure that it is working properly, checking the wiring and connections, and replacing worn or damaged components as needed. If an interlock is found to be malfunctioning or failing, it should be repaired or replaced as soon as possible to prevent safety hazards and ensure the proper functioning of the elevator.
